One day I was looking for cute labels for my calendar in Spanish. It was summer of 2013. It was going to be my first time teaching ON MY OWN, in 3RD GRADE and in the DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM! Can you tell that I had no Idea of what I was going to do?
No?, well that's why I used captions for some words :-)
In the State of Florida 3rd grade it's such an important year! State exam is in place and basically if the students don't pass it, they cannot move on to 4th grade.
So, with that being said, the idea of teaching Spanish in 3rd grade got me so nervous! Especially when the state’s exam is in English, YES! 100% in English.
I knew I was going to co-teach with a great teacher (didn't know much about her) I was going to teach Math, Social Studies and Science in Spanish.
Oh well, let's go back to the calendar. So, I needed to design a beautiful "Calendario". I went online and looked in Pinterest, this linked me to TpT....and to make the story short….. I decided to create my own labels for my own store! And here I am today! Writing in my first blog ever! In my second year teaching 3rd grade (self-contain, meaning I teach English and Spanish for all the subjects to all of my 18 students. Should I mention that the other teacher never came back at the beginning of the school year so we never got to co-teach and I ended up in the self-contain classroom? ), with a TpT store and with this great idea of helping teachers within US and Latin America.
Un día buscaba carteles bonitos para el calendario de mi clase. Era el verano del 2013. Iba a enseñar por primera vez COMPLETAMENTE SOLA en 3er GRADO aquí en los Estado Unidos. Ensenaría en el PROGRAMA DUAL (es decir de dos idiomas, inglés y español) Descubres en mis palabras que no tenía ni idea de lo que iba a hacer? No? Bueno por eso he puesto letras en mayúscula
Aquí en el Estado de la Florida 3er grado es un grado muy importante ya que los estudiantes que no pasen el examen del estado no serán promovidos a 4to grado.
Así que bueno la idea de enseñar español y por primera vez en un grado tan bajo y tan importante me ponía muy nerviosa. Especialmente cuando el examen del estado es en ingles y no en español, SI 100% en ingles. No tiene mucho sentido cierto?
Yo sabía que ensenaría con otra maestra y que ella era muy buena (ella tendría su salón y yo el mío) Yo ensenaría matemáticas, estudios sociales y ciencias en español.
Bueno regresemos de vuelta a la idea del calendario, ya que por esa razón debía de crear uno para mi clase. Fui al internet en busca de ideas y me encontré con TPT…para hacer la historia súper corta decidí crear mis propios carteles para mi propia tienda!
Y aquí estoy hoy! Escribiendo en lo que será mi primer blog, en mi segundo año como maestra de 3er grade (debo acotar que la otra profesora nunca regreso y me quedé como maestra de 18 alumnos ensenando inglés y español) con mi tienda en TpT y con esta gran idea de ayudar a maestras en Estados Unidos y en América Latina.
